A method for the preparation of kerogen for palynological analysis, in which a kerogen-containing particulate rock sample is treated by hydrofluoric acid digestion, which comprises adding an inhibitor which is soluble in the hydrofluoric acid reaction medium and which inhibits the formation of an insoluble fluoride layer on the particles of the sample.
