Automatic winding machine and method for transferring a yarn from a full bobbin to a winding tube

The coiling machine winds thread onto an empty casing (11) until a full coil is formed and has several deflector guides which guide the thread (14) during the transfer process when a full coil (3) is moved from a winding position to a withdrawal position and an empty casing is moved to the winding position. The deflector guides form by contact with the thread during the transfer process a first (50), second (52A) and third thread extent. The pair of deflector guides by which the second thread extent (52A) is formed are located as near as possible to the empty casing and to the full coil in order to reduce the total contact angle between the thread and the deflector guides.
