Stabilising a plastics fuel tank

In order to stabilise the walls of a blow moulded plastics fuel tank 10, the top wall 22 and the bottom wall 24 are interconnected at one or more points 18. In order to achieve this interconnection, the walls are welded together and are formed into a convoluted shape 29, 31 around the weld 25. A clamping device 30, 32 can then be placed over the weld and used to exert a mechanical clamping force between the two walls at a position outside of the weld line 26.
