<p>There is described a voice prosthesis for insertion in the shunt between trachea and oesophagus of a laryngectomized patient. The voice prosthesis comprises a tubular metal part (1) having a funnel-shaped widening (2) open toward the tracheal side. Within the flow path of the air from the trachea into the oesophagus there sits at least one element (3) which can be made to oscillate by the air stream flowing through it and thus generates an audible sound. This voice prosthesis allows a laryngectomized patient to create a much more naturally sounding voice than has been possible hitherto. <IMAGE></p> |
