The invention concerns a method and arrangement for the carrying-out of handover between base station controls in a data communication system. BSC, BTS form a wireless connection network for mobile stations BS to the local exchange LE in a fixed network. The control of the handover between the base station controls BSC has been arranged in the base station controls in such a way that the call's first base station control acts as an anchor point, in which the initial connection created via the local exchange LE is stored and from which in the handover situation the forward connection is made to a second base station control. When required the base station controls leave a local call connection between the base station controls unbroken at the end of the call and keep it available pending subsequent handover between the base station controls. When required the base station controls can also make a new local call connection between the base station controls and keep it available pending the next handover. By this means the signalling load can be reduced, as the connection resources to the local exchange are not continually reserved and are freed at the new handover point. <IMAGE>
