An improved blade sharpening angle guide adapted for aligning and holding a knife blade at a proper angle to a sharpening steel for a manual sharpening of the blade cutting edge is disclosed. The sharpening guide comprises an elongated block having a truncately triangular cross-section. The elongated block has a longitudinal slot therethrough wherein the knife blade or the like may be releasably held with the blade cutting edge extending a distance outside the slot for being sharpened, whereby the angle of the blade to the sharpening steel is controlled when the blade and block combination are drawn across the sharpening steel.
