PURPOSE: To obtain a developing device capable of obtaining an extremely sharp high-density recorded image without fogging by using toner having <=10μm average grain size and preventing the developing device being soiled with the toner. CONSTITUTION: In the developing device constituted in such a manner that a plate-like member 45 having plural electrode parts in the moving direction of a developer carrier 41 is installed in space where the developer carrier faces an image carrier 1, to soar the toner having the same polarity as that of a DC bias voltage impressed to the developer carrier 41, together with an AC voltage and develop a latent image on the image carrier 1, setting is attained as follows; when the electrode widths on the downstream and upstream sides in the moving direction of the developer carrier of the plate-like member 45 are defined as L1 (mm) and L2 (mm) respectively, the distance between the electrodes on the upstream and downstream sides is defined as L3 (mm) and the DC bias voltages impressed to the electrode parts on the downstream and upstream sides are defined as VDC1 (V) and VDC2 (V) respectively, L3 <=L1 <=L2 and (|VDC2|-|VDC1|)/(L1 +L3 )>400 are obtained. |
