PURPOSE: To improve the mass productivity of a constant polarization optical fiber and to enhance its performance by minimizing the deterioration in the extinction ratio when packaging. CONSTITUTION: This constant polarization optical fiber is constituted by providing the bore of a capillary 5 with projections 7 in such a manner that only the two points facing each other come into contact with a clad 2 at a prescribed clearance in the clad 2 insertion hole of the capillary 5 and adhering and fixing the capillary 5 and the clad 2 by aligning stress imparting parts and project parts of the capillary 5 in such a manner that stress imparting parts 3 face the same direction as the direction of the projections 7 or the direction perpendicular thereto. The capillary 5 is producible by an easy processing method without subjecting the capillary to specific high-accuracy working and is adaptable to mass production and, therefore, the constant polarization optical fiber can be economically produced. In addition, the deterioration in the extinction ratio is minimized even if external force is applied on a ferrule 6 in handling, such as packaging of the ferrule 6 on optical products. An improvement in the performance is greatly expectable. |
