PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber coating removing device which each is easy to operate, and never damages the core of an optical fiber in the removal of a coating from the optical fiber. SOLUTION: A device for removing a coating from an optical fiber has a set of housing members 18 having heating members, each housing member 18 has a surface having a coating removing edge 20. The coating removing edge 20 is actively or passively heated to improve the cutting property. The coating removing edge 20 is integrally manufactured, whereby the automatic positioning of the blade and the easily replacement in a field can be realized. The coating removing edge 20 has a removed coating waste collecting area. When the coating removing edge 20 has a saw-like profile, automatic positioning between a coating fiber ribbon and the profile of the coating removing edge is realized by an external positioning device. In such a device, the end part of a covered optical fiber can be positioned, heated, the cut coating layer can be easily separated, and thus, this device has an excellent performance for removal of the coating layer of the covered optical fiber. |
