PURPOSE: To instantaneously recognize the guided running state of a vehicle by setting in advance the importance of the components of a road map in steps and selectively displaying the components of the map about the running road of the vehicle in accordance with instructions inputted against the importance. CONSTITUTION: An operation unit 8 switches the picture displaying state of a display device 7 in the present location displaying mode to a special displaying state in which only the components of a map required for confirming the present location of its own vehicle is displayed by giving a display switching command to a signal processor 3. A map information storing medium 5 stores various kinds of components of the map by ranking the components in steps in accordance with the importance of the components and, when the picture displaying state of the device 7 is switched to the special displaying state, an arbitrary rank is selected and the corresponding component is read out from the medium 5 and displayed on the device 7. When a lower rank is selected, the components of the higher ranks are additionally displayed. Therefore, components having no direct connection with the confirmation of the present location are not displayed in a mixed state and the present location of the vehicle can be recognized with high visibility. |
