PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method and device for prediction coding accompanied with the prediction of movement. SOLUTION: In a first step of a moving vector updating routine, a matching error is calculated by using the first moving vector assigned to a current area under consideration (225). The first moving vector assigned to the current area is retrieved from a moving video screen memory part 215, and temporarily stored in a file 221 of a memory part 220. A matching error obtained in the step is stored in one of files 241-250 in a memory part 240. Next, a movement prediction technique is applied for an area under consideration. In the movement prediction technique, the moving vector assigned to an area in which the moving vector is updated is improved by minimizing a prediction or matching error. |
