This invention relates to the mining industry, specifically to building machinery based on shock operation. The proposed pneumatic hammer contains a shaft (1) with an air-distribution device (2), a block head (3) positioned in the front part of the working cavity of the shaft (1), a moving collar (4) forming a damping chamber (6) that is joined with a front chamber (7) by a channel (8). The latter serves for compressed air delivery into the front chamber, while the channel (10) is designed for compressed air delivery into the rear chamber (11). The cross-section area of the damping chamber exceeds the difference between areas of the blockhead and the tool. Such embodiment of the hammer provides energy damping of a tool rebounding from the environment without an increase in total vibration level.<IMAGE>
