The machine (1) is supported by a miniature endless tractor (3), which moves along the ground (2) as the operator walks behind it. The main belt system has several pairs of narrow belts which are forced together (4) just above the ground. The foliage of the plants are gripped between the pairs of belts and pulled from the ground. The plants are carried over an end roller (11) and presented to the operator (12), bulb upwards. The grip is released at this point, so that the operator can gather them into bunches. The operator returns the bunches to the conveyor. The bunches are removed from the conveyor by assembly stations (14,15) and deposited on a horizontal conveyor. An auxiliary operator picks up the bunches and places them in delivery trays. |
