A press fixed to a supporting column (2) can be used. It is contracted for insertion into the inner pipe section at the joint and is then expanded to press the pipe against the outer one. The press can have an expanding bush (15) with ring segments, also resetting springs fitting in annular grooves in the bush. There can be a truncated-cone slide face in the bush, against which an expanding cone works.
