The device includes a microphone (8) and case (5) which are separated by an arm (6). The arm hooks on the earpiece (3) of the portable telephone (1) so that the microphone is central over the earpiece. Alternately, the earpiece and case can be positioned at a distance from each other. The amplifier consists of a pre-amplifier and a power amplifier and the power supply is a rechargeable battery which can be recharged during dormant periods.
