The bioactive agent (53) may be a chemotherapeutic agent administered to a patient with cancer, and the polarizing field (39, 41, 52) may be an electric field and/or a magnetic field. The direction and/or strength of the polarizing field (39, 41, 52) may be changed during treatment to promote the opportunity for enhanced therapeutic interaction between the bioactive agent (53) and the field (39, 41, 52).
