A method of improving the grip or traction of a vehicle tyre comprising applying an hydrocarbon based solvent to the surface of the tyre is described. The hydrocarbon based solvent is, typically, a white spirit or mineral spirit usually a petroleum hydrocarbon fraction with boiling point widths of the spirits covering 30 - 70 DEG C in the range of 100 - 300 DEG C. A dispenser is also defined.
