Prodn. of a tyre tread cap rubber compsn. comprises: (a) blending a rubber selected from cis-1,4-polyisoprene (natural or synthetic), cis-1,4-polybutadiene, 3,4-polyisoprene, styrene-butadiene copolymers, styrene-isoprene-butadiene terpolymers, butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymers, isoprene-acrylonitrile copolymers and mixts. of these with a thermoplastic polymer selected from polyamide and polypropylene to form a polymer alloy having a thermoplastic polymer resin content of 15-20 wt.%, the rubber contg. C black; and (b) blending additional sulphur curable rubber with a sufficient amt. of the polymer alloy to form a rubber compsn. having a thermoplastic resin content of 2-15 pts.wt. per 100 pts. total rubber and 30-34.5 pts.wt. C black per 100 pts. total rubber.
