Process for producing 2-fluorocyclopropanecarboxylic acid

A process for producing a 2-fluorocyclopropanecarboxylic acid of formula ÄIÜ <CHEM> wherein R is hydrogen or lower alkyl, comprises reducing a 2-halo-2-fluorocyclopropanecarboxylic acid of formula ÄIIÜ <CHEM> wherein R is as defined above and X is a halogen, by (i) developing a Raney nickel alloy in the presence of the 2-halo-2-fluorocyclopropanecarboxylic acid of formula ÄIIÜ, or (ii) by contacting the 2-halo-2-fluorocyclopropanecarboxylic acid of formula ÄIIÜ with hydrogen in an aqueous solvent in the presence of a Raney nickel catalyst.
