System for minimising response time of motor vehicle brake light filament

A system for controlling the brake light energisation of a motor vehicle in order to reduce the time taken by the bulb filament to reach the required temperature for effective light output monitors two principal vehicle conditions (a) that the vehicle is not stationary and (b) that the accelerator is not depressed. Where both conditions exist together the filament is pre-energised to a level below the low point by a suitable control auxiliary in order to minimise the thermal delay to full brightness. Other parameters e.g. outside temperature, speed and distance between vehicles provide additional potential refinements to overall system control.
