The fragmentation weapon consists of an explosive, a detonator and a fragmentation layer with inner (15) and outer (21) surfaces, fragmenting along pre-cut lines. The fragments are shaped so that their lateral surfaces (16, 19, 20) are oblique and angled alternately inwards and outwards. This ensures that the surfaces of adjacent fragments remain in contact in the initial moments after the charge has been exploded, providing a resistance to the explosive gases and giving the fragments increased energy and range.
