A portable apparatus for practising the pronunciation of voice stimuli, such as stimuli for learning a foreign language. The apparatus is provided with an output (30) for delivering audio signals corresponding to said stimuli and to the responses from the user when the stimuli are transmitted, and an input (10) for receiving the audio signals corresponding to said responses. Said apparatus includes a bulk storage means (80) for recording said stimuli and a random access digital memory (70) for digitally recording the user response audio signals. Said bulk storage means consists of a programmable static non-volatile digital memory (80).
