Artificial sap for preservation of fresh plants or their parts comprises water, glycerol, at least one other alcohol contg. at least one aromatic ring, at least one colouring and sodium chloride. The alcohol contains at least one ethoxy gp. and is pref. a polyethoxylated nonylphenol. The alcohol contg. an aromatic ring is present in the water/glycerol mixt. in an amt. of 1-5 (pref. 2) mg/l.
