Recreational machines. A recreational machine has a display area 15 with a set of sections that can be lit up by lamps. There is a group of lamps 16 greater than the set of sections, and a control system acts to operate only those lamps of the group that correspond to the set of sections to be lit up. The machine can be a fruit machine with a main display area with rotating reels 9 and an additional display area in the form of a panel that is lit up by lamps 16 from behind. The panel may consist of a light- transmitting flexible plate 17, which can move in a closed loop around rollers 18, 19 to place different areas 15 in position in front of the group of lamps 16. <IMAGE>
