Electrical transformers and inductances operating in the medium to high power range have an oil cooling system where the oil is maintained at inlet at a low temperature. An outlet point on the transformer (2) delivers oil into pipes (3) with pumps (4.1,5.1) that circulate through heat exchangers (4,5) having forced convection cooling fans. For normal operating conditions two of the fans (4.2,5.2) can be used and the cooled oil is returned (4.4,5.4) to the transformer. For increased power or in the event of damage two additional fans (4.3,5.3) can be switched into operation.
