PURPOSE: To provide a thermal line printer and a driving method therefor whereby images can be formed efficiently without lowering th equality of images formed on a recording paper. CONSTITUTION: In a printer forming images on a heat-sensitive paper with the use of a thermal line head having a linearly arranged plurality of heat- generating resistance bodies, a cycle for transferring bit map data stored in a buffer to the thermal line head is changed in accordance with the amount of bit map data remaining in the buffer thereby controlling data in the buffer so as not to be used up during the formation of images.
