PURPOSE: To produce an electrolytic chromate treated steel sheet excellent in a color tone after coating and printing, in order to obtain an attractive can body. CONSTITUTION: This steel sheet is an electrolytic chromate treated steel sheet in which, as the roughness of the steel sheet in a sheet width direction, Ra (average roughness) is <=0.37μm and also the number of peaks of a roughness curve per inch at±3μm cut level, PPI/0.6μm is regulated to <=250 and, further, the product of Ra and PPI (Ra×PPI) is regulated to 5-80. By this method, the electrolytic chromate treated steel sheet excellent in color tone can be obtained. Moreover, for electrolytic chromate treatment, sulfric acid bath, fluoride bath, etc., now in use, can be used.
