ADHESIVE POLYETHYLENE COMPOSITION

PURPOSE: To obtain a composition excellent in low-temperature impact strength and high-temperature adhesiveness by grafting an unsaturated carboxylic acid onto a composition comprising a specified ethylene/α-olefin copolymer and a specified linear low-density polyethylene. CONSTITUTION: This adhesive polyethylene composition is prepared by grafting an unsaturated carboxylic acid under melt kneading onto a composition comprising 99-40wt.% ethylene/α-olefin copolymer (A) and 1-60wt.% linear low-destiny polyethylene (B) in the presence of a reaction initiator. Component A is obtained by copolymerizing ethylene with anα-olefin in the presence of a single-site catalyst (a combination of a metallocene compound of a group IV or V transition metal with an organoalumium compound and an ionic compound). Component B is prepared by copolymerizing ethylene with anα-olefin in the presence of a ziegler or chromium catalyst. This composition may further mixed with an ethylene/propylene copolymer rubber to form a composition having further improved low-temperature properties and being desirable for coating cables and steel pipes for cryogenic use.
