BAL I RESTRICTION/MODIFICATION-BASED ENZYME GENE

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject gene useful for mass-produce Bal I restriction enzyme useful as a genetically engineered reagent. CONSTITUTION: The objective Bal I restriction enzyme gene and Bal I modification enzyme gene are obtainable from Brevibacterium albidum ATCC15831, having e.g. amino acid sequences of formula I and formula II, respectively. The Bal I restriction enzyme can be obtained in large quantities from a cultured product of transformant Escherichia coli ER1648/pBSR1/pSRB8 (FERM P-14625) produced by transfecting a vector pSRB8 formed by modifying the initiation codon of DRF2 into ATG and binding the Bal I restriction enzyme gene on a downstream site of lac promoter and a second vector pBSR1 capable of manifesting Bal I modification enzyme into E. coli ER1648 strain.
