ETHYLENE/ALPHA-OLEFIN COPOLYMER RUBBER COMPOSITION

PURPOSE: To obtain a material which can give a sliding seal having resistance to a highly polar liquid and improved gas barrier properties by mixing an ethylene/α-olefin copolymer rubber with a flaky filler and an organic peroxide. CONSTITUTION: Ethylene/α-olefin copolymer rubber is mixed with a flaky filler and an organic oxide to obtain a sealing material. It is desirable that the flaky filler is a crystalline magnesium silicate or aluminum silicate having an aspect ratio of 10 or above desirably about 50 or above and is used in an amount of 30-100 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. rubber. The organic peroxide as a crosslinking agent is used in an amount of desirably about 2-4 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. rubber, and it is milled with the rubber and the filler under sufficient cooling. This composition is vulcanized and molded at about 160-170 deg.C or 15-20min.
