PURPOSE: To stabilize the roll gap of a rolling mill and to improve thickness accuracy of a rolled metal plate by stabilizing the oil column in a screw-down cylinder in a method for suppressing and controlling resonance in the hydraulic screw-down device in a hydraulically screw-down rolling mill for rolling a metal plate. CONSTITUTION: In a method for controlling hydraulic screw-down device of the rolling mill 10 by detecting and outputting the oil-column feedback signals and oil-pressure detected signals of the screw-down cylinder 23 with a hydraulic position detector 24 and oil-pressure detector 5, correcting oil-pressure reference signals 12 by these detected signals and operating a servo valve 28, the resonance of the oil column is suppressed by removing vibration component from the oil-pressure reference signals. the resonance of the oil column is prevented.
