PURPOSE: To develop a compsn. for powder metallurgy having excellent characteristics by adding carbon sources and specific hard phase control materials to a combined solid soln. carbide contg. W as an essential component and consisting of iron family metals, high melting metals and carbon. CONSTITUTION: Carbon, graphite and resins, starch, etc., as carbon precursors are added and mixed at a ratio of <=4.0% and the hard phase control materials consisting of carbide, nitride and oxide of group 4a, 5a, 6a elements of the periodic table and the mutual solid solns. thereof at <=40% to and with the combined solid soln. carbide consisting of 8 to 25% >=1 kinds of the iron family metals, such as Co, Ni, Fe, <=10% high melting metals, such as Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Wb, Ta, Mo, 0.6 to 2.7% C and the balance W and the mixture is pulverized. This compsn. for powder metallurgy is pressurized and molded in metal molds and is sintered at a high temp. of 1380 to 1420 deg.C, by which planar crystal WC is crystallized in the structure. The sintered alloy product having excellent hardness, toughness, wear resistance, plastic deformation resistance, chipping resistance and thermal crack resistance is produced. |
