PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform exhaust dyeing of a wool-containing fiber material at a high temperature in the presence of a specific wool-protective agent without damaging the wool. SOLUTION: The wool protective agent to be used in the present dyeing process contains at least one compound expressed by formula I or formula II [R and R' are each H, a 1-6C alkyl or a cation; R1 , R2 , R'1 and R'2 are each H, a 1-6C alkyl or a halogen; B is XZ1 , XZ2 X or NR1 (alk)Z1 (alk)0-1 NR'3 ; X is O or NR3 ; R3 and R'3 are each a halogen or a 1-6C alkyl; Z1 is (CH2 .CH2 O)p (CHY1 .CHY2 .O)q (CHY3 .CHY4 .O)r when one of Y1 and Y2 is methyl and the other is Y, one of Y3 and Y4 is ethyl and the other is H, (p), (q) and (r) are each an integer of 0-20 and the sum of (p) to (r) is 0-20]. A wool-containing fiber material such as wool/polyester blend is dip-dyed with an anionic dye at >100 deg.C in the presence of 1-10 wt.% wool-protective agent.
