MATERIAL EASILY GENERATING NATURAL PATINA AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE: To obtain a material generating natural patina on the surface of its base material in a short period of time by forming a layer of a compd. such as CuCl in a thickness calculated by a prescribed method on a base material whose surface is made of Cu. CONSTITUTION: A layer 2 of a compd. selected from among CuCl, CuBr and CuI is formed on the surface of a base material (steel, etc.) whose surface is made of Cu or a Cu alloy such as Cu-Sn. The thickness of the layer 2 is regulated to 0.1 to 2-3μm as a theoretical thickness calculated from the quantity of electricity for reduction at the time of cathodically reducing the layer 2 in a 0.1N aq. KCl soln. The objective material generating natural patina on its surface in a short period of time when exposed to the open air is obtd.
