PURPOSE: To prepare a hair tonic containing a compound selected from aγ-fatty acid amido-lactic acid and aγ-fatty acid amido-β-hydroxylactic acid as an active ingredient and excellent in hair growing, alopecia-preventing and dandruff- preventing effects. CONSTITUTION: This hair tonic contains 0.01-5wt.% at least one kind of compound selected from an 8-24Cγ-fatty acid amido-lactic acid and aγ-fatty acid amido-β-hydroxylactic acid as an active ingredient. The hair tonic is properly blended with an arbitrary component and is prepared in a form of a medicinal hair tonic or hair tonic cosmetic such as hair tonic, hair lotion, hair cream, hair conditioner, shampoo, rinse, hair jell, hair mist or hair foam according to a conventional method. The hair tonic is used once or two times daily by applying or spraying in an amount of 0.01-100mg in terms ofγ-fatty acid amido- lactic acid and/or theγ-fatty acid amido-β-hydroxylactic acid.
