An appts. for welding two steel tubes (1,2) together comprises means to hold both ends in the correct position and at least one automatic welding appts. (7) working on the outside of the tubes, together with guiding, supporting and driving systems. The appts. also has at least one internal weld pool support (18) resistant to high temp. and pref. mfd. from a ceramic material, together with means for holding, guiding and driving it around the join inner radius. Also claimed is a weld pool support (18) suitable for use in the appts. described above. |
