PURPOSE: To polarize light from a virtual enlarged electric light device in one direction through a linearly polarizing prism and, at the same time, to reduce the reflection of an overhead line by providing a color shutter which converts monochromatic videos into color videos. CONSTITUTION: Videos from a video source 105 become linearly polarized light after passing through a color shutter 110. The linearly polarized light passes through aλ/4-plate 115 and converts a beam 118 into specific polarized light. The polarized beam 118 is projected upon a concave reflecting mirror 125 from a beam splitter 120 and the reflected beam from the mirror 125 reaches an eye-box 140 through a secondλ/4-plate 130 and a circularly polarizing prism 128 incorporating a linearly polarizing prism 135. The beam splitter 120 and reflecting mirror 125 are orderly arranged by means of an off-axis system and a reflecting axis 160 becomes an off-axis by enclosing a processed image beam 118. Therefore, peripheral reflection and the reflection caused by overhead light can be reduced.
