The universal multi-function information and transaction system has a multi-function smart card in the form of a credit card. The card is loaded with personal identification and medical information, and with transactional information related to commercial and governmental services. The second part of the system is a card reader that can read data from the card and write data to the card. The multi-function card has an internal microprocessor circuit and external electrical contacts for power supply and data transfer. An erasable memory is divided into zones for different functions and services. The zones are dynamically managed. Encryption and data compression may be incorporated in the card circuit.
