PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane module preventing proliferation of mold and slime on a retaining part of liquid in an outer jacket and capable of mainte nance of stable performance by the membrane for a long period. SOLUTION: A spiral type membrane module is formed by housing a spiral type membrane element in the interior of the transparent outer jacket 1. A photocatalyst layer 13 is formed at 0.1-5μm thickness in the inner peripheral surface of the outer jacket 1. The photocatalyst layer 13 consists of a TiO2 thin film or a photocatalyst, etc., deposited metal, etc., thereon. The photocatalyst layer 13 is formed by sticking a coating film of the photocatalyst or a transparent sheet laminated with a film of the photocatalyst to a plastic film to the inner surface of the outer jacket 1. Proliferation of mold and bacteria is prevented in a dead space S between the inner surface of the outer jacket 1 and the outer surface of the membrane element.
