PURPOSE: To avoid damages on an image carrier by a contact member which touches the image carrier by constituting the image carrier of a flexible material and forming the contact member which touches the surface of the image carrier in such a manner that the width of the contact member is larger than the width of the image carrier. CONSTITUTION: The width X of a developing roller 1 is designed larger than the width Y of a flexible image holding body 2 (X>Y). The width Z of a toner replenishing roller 3 which is in contact with the developing roller 1 is smaller than the width Y of the image carrier 2 (Z<Y). By this constitution, the image carrier 2 is held by the surface of the developing roller 1 all over the width, which prevents such a problem in a conventional method that an image carrier 2 slides while a roller 1 bites the image holding body. Therefore, the image carrier 2 is not damaged by the end edges of the roller 1. The image carrier 2 is provided by forming a photosensitive layer on a seamless endless nickel belt or the like and can be easily deformed by contact with the developer roller 1. |
