The cylinder measuring gauge includes an arm (1) projecting horizontally from a vertical shaft. The arm is able to rotate about the vertical shaft axis and lies within the cylinder to be measured. The arm incorporates a micrometer gauge (29) which is able to measure the radius from the arm mounting point to the tip which is in contact with the cylinder. The cylinder may be moved relative to the measuring arm both in a rotational sense (B), and in an oscillatory movement in a perpendicular direction. This allows a number of measurements to be taken in order to determine the diameter of the cylinder with accuracy.
