VEHICLE POSITION DETECTOR

PURPOSE: To provide a vehicle position detector which detects the position sideways of a vehicle with respect to the center of a running lane especially concerning the vehicle position detector for automatic operation of the vehicle. CONSTITUTION: A vehicle position detector for detecting the position sideways of a vehicle with respect to the center of a running lane is provided with a plurality of pickup coils 12 arranged in an array across the width on the undersurface of a vehicle to detect a hourly variation of the intensity of magnetic fields of a plurality of permanent magnets 11 which are arranged at an equal interval in the direction of running at the center of the running lane and magnetized vertically on the road surface of the running lane. A sideways position detection circuit 20 detects the maximum output voltage among the plurality of pickup coils 12 and the position of the pickup coil 12 generating the maximum output voltage is defined to be the position sideways of the vehicle.
