PURPOSE: To reduce the error of a ladder resistance in a subranging type A/D converter and to improve the linearity of the A/D conversion result in accor dance with this reduction. CONSTITUTION: Each voltage comparator in a comparator array of the subranging type A/D converter provided with the ladder resistance, a switch group 3, the comparator array, and a digital adder is provided with an input capacity Cc connected to a node Na connected to the switch group 3, an inverter 6 which has the input terminal connected to the input capacity Cc, and a switch element 7 connected to input and output terminals of the inverter 6. A capacity Ce connected to the node Na through a switch means SW is provided. The switch means SW with a first switch element SW1 controlled by a first clockϕ1 as the clock for upper comparison and a second switch element SW2 controlled by a second clockϕ2 as the clock for lower comparison is provided.
