PURPOSE: To provide a paste type cadmium negative electrode for alkaline storage battery in which the charge and discharge cycle life is extended. CONSTITUTION: A non-converted electrode in which an active material paste having Ni(OH)2 added thereto is filled in a current collector is chemically converted followed by perfect discharge, and it is then further over-discharged. The Ni(OH)2 is changed into a nickel compound containing NiOOH and NiO2 by the over discharge, and the valence of nickel in the nickel compound is set to 2.2-3.4.
