A fixed casing (1) defines an annular space in which a four diametrically-opposite pistons (40,40A,50,50A) rotate on two discs (4,5) driven by coaxial shafts (41,51). Rotation of the discs causes a cyclical variation in the volumes of four spaces defined between the pistons and the casing. A combustion chamber (3) incorporating a flame stabilising tube (30) is permanently supplied with fuel. Each quarter-rotation of the discs creates an air intake phase, a phase in which air is compressed and forced into the combustion chamber, an expansion phase, and an exhaust discharge phase. At any given point of a complete rotation, each of the four phases is taking place in a respective one of the four spaces.
