The harvester consists of a front table (3) with a cutterbar (4) at its forward end for cutting the crop stems at a given height from the ground, and a conveyor behind them for transporting the cut portions of the crop to a thresher. A second or additional cutterbar is situated to the rear of the front table and in front of the harvester's front wheels (5) cuts through the crop stems at a different height, closer to the ground. The rear cutterbar (6) is connected to the harvester chassis by a linkage (7) which allows it to be moved between working and non-working positions, the latter being on the same level as the front cutterbar. The additional cutterbar is driven by a transmission (8) or hydraulic motor.
