In an air filter, for air intake valves/units in vehicles, having a paper, fabric or foam filter extending between dirty and clean air chambers, (a) the dirty air chamber (16) is connected with a labyrinthine plastics air-inlet channel (12) which, in the assembled position, communicates with the ambient air at its lowest point (9); (b) the labyrinthine wall slopes towards the lowest point (9); and (c) an air permeable metal insert (13) is positioned in at least a section of the labyrinthine channel (12).
