The wheelchair (1) has main drive wheels (4) with the usual hand wheels (4) to allow propulsion of the chair. An extension wheel (8) is fastened over each of the drive wheels to allow easier moving on soft surfaces. An internal circumferential groove (9) in the extension wheels slots over the rim of the drive wheel. The extension wheel can be made in two halves (8a,b) and has a tyre (10) running around the inner part of its outer surface which allows it to be used on a hard surface as well.
