A probe wash device (40) for an analyzer (10) comprises a wash compartment (80) and a source of wash fluid (84) and an exhaust for wash fluid (103) both fluidly connected to the compartment. Adjacent to the location of the connection of the source of wash fluid to the compartment, a constricted passageway (112) is provided to force in-drawn air to speed up during drying, thus ensuring complete removal of residual liquid.
