Chopping or shredding mechanism e.g. for food industry

Prods. are torn apart or chopped by two shredding rolls (1,2) of approx. equal size, joined together by gearwheels (9,10) of different size. Pref. the gearwheels mesh together and the rolls rotate at different speeds. The rolls and gears are on common axes (7,8) and only one gearwheel is driven. Rolls are separated by a gap (13), the width of which is variable by adjustment of one or more of the rolls. The rolls have teeth extending on the periphery in parallel lines. The teeth may be flexible, or brush-like.
